I would like to tell you a sort of fairytale…

There once was a girl that I know with a beautiful story about her journey far away from her home.
She was 20 years old as she made her dream trip to Africa. She was very excited because her dream came true. She stayed and worked at a clinic in the Gambia for about 6 month with that wonderful and inspiring women she will ever met, Fatou Gaye.
That woman did really remarkable - or may be better: unbelievable - things there like: running a clinic, beying a midwife, darra, offering stability and taking care of many young girls and her family at the compound. She was impressed in the way Fatou did all this.
The girl was very blessed to work and life with this women. They became a good team and – very important - there was trust from both sites. They also learned a lot from each other en shared the good, the funny, the hard and sad parts and periods of their work together.
The girl also experienced other positive and interesting thinks like: going to (learning?)programs with the girls and going to the big market with Isatou. Much fun they had while eating al lot – yes really a lot! - of Balla Gaye chips with Aminata en Fatou.
The food she got was also nice and was great full to Yassin en Gambie for making those great breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Even though she knew in what kind of circumstances the food was to be cooked.
In the - especially made! - beautiful room she stayed in, she could be alone sometimes and was thankful that Ya ami was taking care of that room and washing her cloths. She was also blessed working with Awa mostly in the evenings.
The girl had a wonderful time over there and enjoyed every moment of it. Sometimes when she had a hard time or felt less happy, that little man Mustapha cheered up her day and made her smile again.
Her dream certainly came true! Sadly she had to go but it was a happy time and she felt good and protected although she was about 3500 miles from home. She will never be the same as she came here 6 month ago.

She will stay in contact with these beautiful people and with everything she will do in de future she will do that with a piece of Africa in her head and heart!

With love Jojo Gaye
